Suno lyrics: writing lines that get sung properly
Lyrics you can read are not the same as lyrics a model can sing. Four formatting rules cover most of it.
The four rules
- One line, one phrase. A line that runs long forces the delivery to rush - keep it under about 15 words.
- Tag the sections, each on its own line above the verse:
[Verse 1],[Chorus],[Bridge]. One tag per section, not per line. - Punctuate for breath. Commas where a singer breathes, a full stop where the phrase lands; use blank lines between sections.
- Do not use brackets for notes. Text in parentheses can be sung; put instructions in the style prompt instead.
When the vocals come out unclear
| Symptom | Change |
|---|---|
| Words blur together | Split long lines in two |
| The structure wanders | Add section tags and number repeated verses |
| Language switching sounds odd | Keep a whole section in one language |
| Melody ignores the words | Give the hook its own short line and repeat it |
A structure that works
[Intro]
[Verse 1]
Streetlights on the empty avenue
I keep the promise I made to you
[Pre-Chorus]
And if the morning comes too soon
[Chorus]
I will still be singing
[Chorus]
I will still be singing
[Outro]
常见问题 / FAQ
Should every line have a tag?
No. Tags mark sections; a tag per line makes the structure harder to read.
Capitals or lowercase?
It does not matter for section tags, but writing a whole verse in capitals tends to add nothing but emphasis noise.
Can I use lyrics I wrote myself?
Yes, and those are the safest to use commercially; lyrics written by someone else carry copyright risk.
